EEUMC

In October 2005, Edgewater Emmanuel became a Reconciling Congregation.

Believing that we are children of God and that God loves us all equally, our congregation will seek to welcome and embrace all persons; women, men, elders, youth, children, able and disabled, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and straight, of all races, and economic backgrounds. Specifically, being a Reconciling Congregation sends a direct message to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Christians; and to their friends and families, that Edgewater Emmanuel is a faith community that is open and welcoming of all persons; that we are a place of peace and justice.

A bit of history of EEUMC...

In 1979, the congregation of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and Edgewater United Methodist Church merged in faith and fellowship to start anew under the name "Edgewater Emmanuel United Methodist Church". The Emmanuel Church at 1900 11th Avenue South in Minneapolis was sold and the new congregation began its mission of faith from the northwest corner of 52nd Street and 13th Avenue in south Minneapolis. Both congregations come from a rich heritage. Emmanuel was established in 1873 as First Swedish American Methodist Church of Minneapolis. Edgewater began as a Methodist church in a new neighborhood in south Minneapolis in 1929.

Today, under the leadership of Pastor Deb DeMeester, we are a welcoming church family in the Hale-Page-Diamond Lake community. We embody warm hearts, open minds, and open doors; united in service to God and our neighbors. Our congregation offers opportunities for meaningful worship, caring relationships with people of various ages and backgrounds, and service within the church and into the larger community. Our mission includes sharing our building with individuals and organizations seeking affordable space for worship and service.
